VOCATIONAL TRAINING

At 18 years of age, children in Uganda are expected to be self-supporting. To accomplish this task, the orphanage is developing a vocational training program. The older children are quickly approaching the time that they will need these skills. In addition to special needs for tools, materials and classrooms at the orphanage, when distributed over the orphanage population the average cost/child is $30/year.

At Canaan Children's Home, we are raising up leaders with life supporting skills.

Vocational Education -- We decided to sell of all the chickens and to renovate the chicken coups, turning them into a vocational school for our growing children--the teenagers. The CCH Executive Committee met and decided to use part of the money from chicken sales to renovate at least one of the three chicken coups.  We have almost completed the renovations.  The remaining money (together with proceeds for one of our bulls) was used to pay for food provided but not previously paid for and to make a deposit on an adjoining field for the cows.  We will be renting another field for our garden to supplement our food needs.
