Canaan Children's Home

Letters of Reference

2/6/2006

We enjoyed our time with the children in Uganda at Canaan Children's Home. We visited several children's homes while in Africa and could tell a huge difference with the children at Canaan. God is using the staff at Canaan in a tremendous way to raise those children in a Godly manner.

Thanks again.

I am writing as the chairman of the Missions Committee for Stony Point Reformed Presbyterian Church, Bon Air, Virginia.

Our church has sent five short term mission teams to Canaan Children's Home over the last four years. We have had people work with and stay with Pastor Isaac at the home, most recently, in July, 2004. I have met Pastor Isaac and his wife Rebecca. Their love for the children is genuine as is their commitment to the Lord and His work. Our church has been moved to help this endeavor continue to serve orphan children in a land where many such children are abused, neglected or killed.

We are now making plans for the future trips to Uganda.

Dear Friends,

In 2000 and 2001, I had the privilege of visiting Canaan Children’s Home on the first two “short-term” mission trips that Stony Point Reformed Presbyterian Church made to Uganda. From the very start, I was impressed by the hearts of Pastor Isaac and Rebecca Wagaba for these orphaned children. They had given up their peace, quiet and comforts and were burdened with caring for an increasing number of orphaned children that found their way into the Wagaba household.

I was equally impressed by the new construction taking place ... the handmade bricks formed and fired right there beside the Wagaba’s house so dormitories could be built to accommodate more orphans under their care. Children were brought from all over due to the Wagaba’s reputation for not turning away a fatherless child.

Before going to Uganda, I had already heard about the amazing testimony of Pastor Isaac and his refusal to deny Christ while staring down the end of a gun barrel during the evil reign of the brutal dictator Idi Amin, and then miraculously surviving two gunshots meant for his execution. But to meet such a person and assist him in his work, is quite an honor.

Since 1999, I have had another privilege ... that of financially supporting a little girl at Canaan. We have written back and forth numerous times over the years. My refrigerator is decorated with drawings, notes and pictures she has made for me. Knowing that she is under the care of the staff at Canaan Children’s Home is a real comfort to me because I’ve been there. I know that she is in good hands, is getting a good education, is being well-fed and is being taught to walk and live as a child of God. That is the best assurance any “parent” could have.

I would encourage you, if you are not currently supporting a child at Canaan Children’s Home, to pray about doing just that. The Moines go into a general fund for the entire orphanage so all kids will benefit from your gift, but you have the wonderful opportunity to “adopt” one or more children to correspond with and pray for as they grow through their days at Canaan. Please visit the Sponsor Page on the web site and consider this tremendous privilege.
